Witch’s Familiar ‘Newes’, Handmade, Reclaimed Wood, Woodcut Wall Hanging

In the 17th century, during the English Civil War, self-proclaimed “Witchfinder General” Matthew Hopkins interrogated over 300 people across East Anglia for the crime of witchcraft. This piece of handmade wall art is inspired by a woodcut depicting his interrogation of an accused woman, who after days of sleep deprivation was forced to put names to the animal ‘familiars’ she was accused of harbouring. Made from reclaimed timber.
